The web host for this site made some
changes recently; among them was a change in the type of webstats
that is used. Maybe the old webstats wasn't compatible with the new
server software? Whatever the case, this one presents information in
a different way. Like the old one, it shows which things on my site
are the most popular, but this one also shows how many visitors went
to each page. The old one did show visitors, but it wasn't page
specific.
Before, it appeared that this blog was
the #2 attraction, behind free vector clipart. My reasoning was that
in a world that has so many problems, if there were a lot of people
wanting to hear what I had to say, then I should be saying it. Just
–try-- to have a reasonable degree of accuracy. What the new
webstats show is that the actual number of visitors to the blog is
lower than I thought. Of course, if you look into the process, it's
all an educated guess, regardless of how certain they make it look.
So..it is -possible-that I actually do have a decent number of
readers, and the webstats service interprets the hits as low
visitors, because the blog is made different than an HTML page. My
guess is that since this blog keeps a number of the most recent
articles displayed, this is interpreted in a way that makes it show
up as the #2 attraction. Whatever the case, I was somewhat relieved
to not be compelled to write. Still, a blog shouldn't be unattended,
and I really do have some things on my mind, so I'll be posting them.
Another thing with this new webstats:
it doesn't show country of origin, like the old one did. The US
military, and the US government somehow showed up as their own country;
probably to make you aware of their presence. Whatever... now the
adventure is gone, now that I can't see their little .gov and .mil
showing up.. For awhile, they were a daily presence, then it was
less. I'm pretty sure it's because I used to frequent a rather high
energy Libertarian blog.
I wonder if psychologists have a term
like MEDS...mutual esteem dependency syndrome: In spite of the fact
that I'm basically a marshmallow (white, fat, and harmless), they
feel compelled to watch me. Having an enemy to keep tabs on makes you
important. And hey, being watched makes me important. That, or it
simply keeps them employed. It's a form of stimulus spending...the
worst form. Nonetheless, I wanted my friends at BigBroInc to know I
still cared, so I made a cartoon...
